Background
About Daniel Jorgensen
Early in my career, while working as a pediatrician in a refugee camp, I learned firsthand that children were disproportionately affected by poverty and disease. Later, as an infectious disease-trained physician and CDC-trained epidemiologist (EIS Officer), I learned that simple interventions, such as improved sanitation and vaccination, could have a major impact on health; that the impact could be measured; and the measures could drive key decisions in drug development, clinical medicine, and public health. • This led to a ~25 year career in the biopharmaceutical industry, including 10 years at Pfizer, where I worked as global clinical leader for azithromycin and as Pfizer’s first vaccine development team leader, while concurrently, I pursued my MBA. My goal was to understand both the technical and economic barriers in the drug development process, so that new medications could be available to patients more quickly. • My extensive background in clinical development (> 22 years) includes comprehensive research, development, and commercialization of small molecules and biologics/vaccines, across multiple therapeutic areas, including rare diseases. • I have ushered compounds from the preclinical stage through all phases of clinical development and regulatory approval, including multiple NDAs, while supporting post-approval activities, such as product launches and advisory boards. Along the way, I have supported business development activities and have built exceptional cross-functional teams. • I was educated at Yale (BS); Univ. of Wisconsin (MD); Univ. of Washington (MPH); and Yale (MBA) with specialty/subspecialty training in three areas: Pediatrics; Infectious Diseases; and Preventive Medicine. By overcoming barriers, and by using new tools such as digital biomarkers, artificial intelligence and innovative trial design, we can accelerate drug development and improve global health on a massive scale-for people of all ages.
