My experiences working in both inpatient and outpatient settings has taught me many things, but one of the biggest lessons has been that a patient or client benefits more from counseling if they believe you can help them; if they trust you. My goal, therefore, is not only to provide a client with care supported by empircally-based and clinically-tested best practices, but to provide that care in such a way that the client comes to believe in the treatment process. Establishing that rapport, building their belief that counseling can help them and that they can trust me as their counselor- that is first and foremost my goal in my practice.
