About Daniel Kellum

I am a former PM mechanic for general industry. During my time with the company, I was always very safety conscious, making sure the machines that I was responsible for were well maintained and safe to operate. However, I got my first exposure to the safety world when I was asked to be part of the creation of the company's JSA's for my department. From there I began taking on other safety responsibilities such as plant safety inspections and '5S Lean' activities to address housekeeping issues that were directly related to safety hazards. Once I joined of the company's safety committee, I became more involved with the plant safety inspection and improvement process by submitting inspection reports and doing follow-ups. During my last 3 years with this company, I began doing safety training and instruction in the following areas; Lift Truck Safe Operation, Aerial Lift Safe Operation, LOTO, and Plant Safety Basics. After leaving the company, I became heavily involved with Chesapeake Region Safety Council. I took several safety courses to earn my Advanced Safety Certificate. After completing that program, I became a sub-contract instructor for Chesapeake which eventually led to me becoming a full time virtual facilitator and instructor for this company. I am continuing my safety education by working on my CIT certification with the BCSP. There's no limit to what you can learn and achieve when it comes to safety!
