About Daniel Ketterer

I'm a mathematician building toward a PhD in statistical and causal modeling for public policy, with a particular focus on mental health resource allocation.The short version: I want to help policymakers make better decisions about who gets access to treatment, and I want the arguments behind those decisions to survive scrutiny.The longer version starts with experience. I know firsthand what happens when mental health treatment works, and what it costs, in every sense, when it doesn't. That difference isn't just personal. It's economic. It's institutional. It shows up in productivity data, in disability claims, in the gap between what state budgets allocate and what communities actually need.That gap is where I want to work. Not as an advocate making appeals, but as a researcher building evidence bases like causal models, identification strategies, cost-effectiveness analyses. The things that give policymakers something defensible to act on. The goal is to sit at an NGO or policy institute and do the rigorous, unglamorous work of proving what interventions move the needle and why.Right now I'm building that foundation: econometrics, causal inference etc. implemented by hand in Python, not just studied in textbooks. I hold a Master's in Mathematics from Wright State University, and my background gives me a systems level lens I bring to everything, from formal proofs to messy real-world data.If you work in policy research, health economics, or causal inference methodology, I'd genuinely like to connect.
