About Daniel Langr

I wrote my first computer program at the age of seven when my father brought a Sord M5 computer to my country being at that time still part of the Eastern Bloc. I found then that programming is something I am excited about. At the age of sixteen, I published an article with x86 assembler codes in the PC World magazine about non-standard modes of VGA graphic cards that were used in some computer games. Now, after many years, I still enjoy developing codes. I mostly focus on high-performance computing (HPC) domain, i.e, I propose, implement and optimize massively parallel and distributed algorithms and related data structures. Within my work and research, I regularly use some of the most powerful contemporary supercomputers consisting of hundreds of thousands of computational cores. For implementation, I mostly use C++. I like this programming language since it combines high abstraction and object-oriented techniques with the ability to produce extremely optimized resulting machine code. I also teach an advanced C++ course at the university and enjoy exploring new features of this powerful programming language. My StackOverflow reputation is over 6k. I am an author or co-author of many peer-reviewed journal articles and conference papers from scientific computing and nuclear physics fields. In May 2015, I defended my thesis and received a Ph.D. degree. In 2014, I was awarded the 2nd place in Joseph Fourier Prize for student contributions in scientific computing. My h-index is 10 according to Google Scholar.
