Background
About Daniel Lantz
Started as a Waste Management Master Plan and Public Consultation Coordinator in Hastings County, Ontario in 1989. Progressed through various positions as a recycling consultant; acting as the Manager of Waste Diversion for Proctor & Redfern/Earth Tech Canada, culminating in a partnership with MacViro Consultants, leading a team of consultants doing work on projects across Canada and the United States. Projects involved planning, design, engineering and policy work for municipalities across North America, developing a Collection Cost Model and working on optical sorting for plastics (in 1992) long before it was ever considered viable for mass introduction as it is today. While Manager of Technical Services at Stewardship Ontario, contributions, including the development of the steward pay-in model and oversight of the industry associations workgroup, were made to the development of the original Blue Box Program Plan. With Cascades Recovery, as VP of Operations, new industry benchmarks in product quality and recovery rates were achieved in both single stream and two stream facilities. That position transitioned into being COO with Green by Nature EPR, where working with a great team a new, innovative approach to recycling was developed to manage the entire post-collection network for the province of British Columbia. Currently running my own consulting company, Crow's Nest Environmental Inc, focusing on recycling, EPR, SMM and the circular economy. One core client is PAC Global, acting as the Director of PACNEXT and as a Technical Advisor to the Canada Plastics Pact. Another core client is Circular Materials, acting as Strategic Advisor to the COO, developing the new EPR program for Ontario and New Brunswick. My doctoral dissertation examined EPR as an economic policy to effect environmentally preferrable packaging design. I have written and/or presented more than 100 papers on recycling and composting, including recent webinar presentations on emerging technologies and the recycling supply chain. Specialties: EPR and Stewardship – Policy, Planning, Implementation Packaging Design Optimization Material Recycling Facility Operations and Systems Design
