About Daniel Markewitz

I focus on understanding forest soil processes under natural and managed conditions. My research spans from the basic (How deep is soil?) to the applied (Does forest N fertilization increase N2O efflux?) and I have worked with public institutions, private landowners, industrial foresters, and subsistence farmers. I maintain a water, soil, and plant chemistry laboratory at the University of Georgia focusing on macro and micro nutrients and use geophysical tools of Electromagnetic Induction (EMI) and Soil Electrical Resistivity (SER) for a range of soil investigations. I teach and work with undergraduate and graduate students at UGA where we foster study into forest soils as the biogeochemical processors of the Earth."With my fingers in the dirt, I was part of the Earth, and every living thing was part of me."
