About Daniel McDermott

As a graduate of the BMus(Hons) Traditional Music-Piping Degree programme I have always had a great interest in the Highland Bagpipes. I currently play in the Grade 1 Inveraray and District Pipe Band (2017 & 2019 World Champions) since 2012 and the juvenile project there since the Autumn of 2009, serving as Pipe Major in 2011. I was a part of The National Youth Band of Scotland for 10 years from 2008-2018 serving as Pipe Sergeant for three years and for my final year, as Senior Band Pipe Major. I learned great teamwork, communication and organisational skills in this fantastic project. I have covered various teaching positions including at The College of Piping, The National Piping Centre and various seasonal schools throughout the country and beyond. I currently teach at George Heriot’s School in Edinburgh. I spent a fantastic 2 years as a volunteer with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde as a Volunteer Welcome Guide at the recently constructed Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. I took away so much from this experience in dealing with a wide variety of situations.
