About Daniel Meersand

Like most of my generation, cinema and television played an outsized role in my youth. But unlike other children, they were never just entertainment. During a childhood filled with tragedy and frequent unpredictable changes to the status quo, they were a life raft to cling to, a way of connecting with those who were lost or separated from me by vast distances. A chance encounter with a location production shoot opened up the magic of the world behind the camera, and a the school library further expanded my horizons by introducing me to the amazing history and culture of the mediums of film and television. While studying film at Brooklyn College, I worked on several tv and film productions throughout New York City. I began at NBC in 2002 as a weekend production assistant and worked my way up to associate producer before even finishing college. Simultaneously working as a producer for NBC and as a broadcast engineer for ESPN, I won an Emmy award in 2005 for my work on NBC’s coverage of the Athens Olympics. Despite my success in the field I walked away from live television broadcasting to study screenwriting at the American Film Institute Conservatory. After graduating he co-wrote REMOVAL, released by Lionsgate, and 20th Century Fox’s THE PYRAMID, which led to a mentorship by the late, legendary, Wes Craven. I have been a member of the Writer’s Guild of America, West since 2012. Short version pitch: what I can bring to the table that few applicants can is eighteen years of professional experience in media. I’m an Emmy-winning network broadcast producer, a WGA screenwriter with three studio features under my belt, more television programs than I can remember, and I’m a lifelong student of film and media.
