About Daniel Mesa

I am an economist and a diplomat with close to two decades of experience in international affairs, especially in Asia. My work spans bilateral and multilateral relations, economic diplomacy, strategic communication, and international cooperation — always with a focus on long-term competitiveness. I have a particular interest in international institutions, international development and the advancement of world economic and social integration strategies and mechanisms. I write From the Mesa — a Substack where I explore systems, leadership, and what makes countries (and people) competitive, with some detours. It's an honest space for grounded thinking, drawing from diplomatic practice and personal reflection. I’m always open to conversations that spark ideas or challenge how we think about the future. I value diversity, ideas and institutions, but most importantly, the people driving them.
