Background
About Daniel Munro
I am Co-Director of Shift Insights - a research shop that offers insights on the social, economic and technological opportunities and challenges facing Canada in the digital age. I am also a Senior Fellow in the Innovation Policy Lab at the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy at the University of Toronto, and Researcher in Residence at Actua—Canada’s largest youth STEM outreach organization. My research and expertise span science and innovation policy, skills and education policy, and applied ethics, including the ethics of innovation, and new and emerging technologies. Previously, I was a Research Fellow with the Brookfield Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and Associate Director of Public Policy at the Conference Board of Canada, with lead research roles in the Centre for Skills and Post-Secondary Education, Centre for Business Innovation, and Science, Technology and Innovation Policy Group. In 2007-08 I was Senior Analyst at the Council of Canadian Academies—the Government of Canada’s arm’s length science assessment organization; and in 2006-7, Assistant Professor of Philosophy and the Democracy and Diversity Postdoctoral Fellow in the Forum for Philosophy and Public Policy at Queen’s University. I have also taught political science, philosophy and applied ethics at the University of Ottawa, the University of Toronto and Western University where I won the Award of Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching. I hold degrees in political science from Toronto (B.A.), Western (M.A.), and MIT (Ph.D.).
