About Daniel Phillips

I am a (1st-Class) MSc Biological Sciences Graduate from the University of Aberdeen with aspirations to enter academia and conduct my own scientific research. I have broad academic interests which can be loosely categorised under the umbrella terms of systems biology, theoretical biology, and the philosophy of biology. Currently, I am a research assistant on the DeCODED programme which is a collaborative project between clinicians covering North West Thames Regional Genetics Service (NWTRGS) & principal investigator Ines Cebola based at Imperial College London. In this project I will identify disease-causing genetic regulatory variants in patients diagnosed with suspected rare monogenetic diseases. Previously, I was a research assistant in Professor Fredrik Karpe’s group at the Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology, and Metabolism (OCDEM), where I was analysing data from genomic experiments to understand the transcriptional and epigenetic basis of human fat distribution. I completed my MSc by Research degree in Professor John Speakman’s Animal Energetics Group at the University of Aberdeen studying how short-term calorie restriction changes patterns of transcriptome-wide alternative splicing across different mice tissues.
