Background
About Daniel Reeves
I started full time work when I was 15 at Harefield Hospital catering department. I worked here for 9 years and started working towards my career in IT, having already studied IT Applications BTEC First.I then gained a job at the Uxbridge College, where I progressed my career in desktop support, network and telephony support. I further my skills by completing CCNA, several modules of the CCNP, A+ hardware and software, several modules of the MCSE and my CNA in Novell. I worked in every area, built and maintained servers, supported the Alcatel telephony PBX and ended up building the images for the desktops. I left Uxbridge College in 2007 after we had completely changed the network from Novell to Windows, my part of which was wrapping all the applications and clients. Then I started my career at Brunel University running the telephone system, which was at the time on (V4.3). I have carried out several upgrades taking us to 6 then to 7 and then to version 8, before upgrading to 11.5 on a VMWARE environment, with UCCX and Unity Connections. Last year we moved the system from our end-of-life UCS servers to Brunel Universities virtual system.I have managed for 1 year the front-line telephony team and at this time I trained in ILM3 management training. These personnel were finally moved to another department, and I was their technical implementer and supporter, I was also supported by an external company as I was a single point of failure. I managed the network team for 1 year too, where I was then moved to my previous role, as I was due to concentrate on the next upgrade which has not taken place to date due to change of management.I have been primarily responsible for critical event such as clearing. I used to run registration before the pandemic, and I project managed all elements of upgrades and new implementations. I was responsible for efficiencies made for licenses and I am dealing with all elements of telephony contract and making sure that Brunel is ready for the PSTN switch off, even though that’s been put back to 2027.My current situation is, I may be looking for work in 2025, as I may be made redundant. I have never been out of work before, so a strange feeling as I really did think my career would finalise at Brunel, as I have always been successful in my role.
