About Daniel Shane

My life in IT all started when I decided to apply for an IT job at the Faculty of Law at the University of Montreal. Never could I have imagined just how important that one application would eventually have on my whole life and that of my family. Working for the University of Montreal while doing your studies as a student is a real honor. The work is right next door to your classes, the pay is great, and it even opens the path for a master’s degree in some cases. Because of these advantages, everyone wants to apply for those types of positions but only the best students get in (hence why it's an honor to be selected). I worked for the Faculty of Law for 5 years, after which I decided to become a college professor, for 2 years, and then started working in the private sector as the dot com bubble made it difficult to ignore the difference in compensation between the public and private sector. After a few years in the private sector (I would always move up quickly in the cooperate ladder each time), I heard that my fellow students that moved on to the private sector like me were all coming back to work for that small lab in the Faculty of Law at UdeM. So, I finally decided to come back as well. A few years later we decided to do a spin-off and incorporated ourselves to become Lexum, a world leader in legal publishing (https://canlii.org and https://lexum.com). As a business partner, I worked (along with my other colleges) to grow the business from just a few employees to now over 45.
