Background
About Daniel Shimberg
I am a junior at Yale University pursuing a bachelor of science in computer science and mathematics. From proof writing to programming, I enjoy coming up with creative solutions to problems and finding patterns. I've taken math classes in probability theory, discrete math, vector analysis, abstract algebra, and fields and Galois theory. I've taken four semesters of computer science classes that have introduced me to programming languages including C, Python, SQL, and HTML and topics including computer vision, computer architecture, databases, recursion, Turing machines, runtime efficiency, and data structures. My greatest strengths in these fields are my abilities to quickly pick up new concepts, use complex logical reasoning, and effectively communicate step-by-step problem solving techniques. Other topics I've studied in college besides mathematics and computer science include Intermediate Chinese, Game Theory, Logic, Architecture, Music Theory, and English. My hobbies include chess, poker, music, hiking, and teaching. I've been playing chess for sixteen years and taught a chess class for elementary school students for seven years. I play multiple games of chess a day and actively participate in the Yale Chess Club. My interest in chess also extends to any strategic games. I also study poker strategy and I'm interested in the statistical and risk-analysis aspects of the game. I'm currently on the board of the Yale Poker Club and I'm a member of the team that represents Yale in Intercollegiate Poker Association tournaments. I've played drums for eleven years and guitar for two years. I enjoy making music with friends and I am currently working part-time in a music teacher position at a synagogue. Finally, I love hiking and the outdoors. I completed a thru hike of the 2193 miles of the entire Appalachian Trail from 3/17/21-8/2/21.
