Background
About Daniel Stokes
My name is Daniel Stokes. I was born and raised in the High Desert, specifically Hesperia, California. I graduated from the University of California, Riverside with a bachelor’s degree, majoring in Psychology and minoring in Education. Prior to attending UC Riverside, I graduated from Oak Hills High School in 2015. I am very interested in pursuing an opportunity geared to Psychology, specifically in Mental Health. I have worked in many different fields of employment that utilizes Psychology. I am currently working as a substitute teacher for the Adelanto Elementary School District and the Hesperia Unified School District. Right now, I am working as a long-term substitute for my former high school, Oak Hills. Prior to this job assignment, I had five other long-term assignments for Melva Davis Academy, El Mirage Elementary School and Mesa Linda Middle School (three long-term assignments at this school, including a Resident Substitute position). Along with teaching in the classroom, I have also coached youth sports for the past two years. I am currently an Assistant Football Coach for the freshman team at Oak Hills and I am the Head Basketball Coach for the Freshman/Sophomore team at Oak Hills. Being an instructor inside and outside of the classroom has allowed me to work with students that come from many different backgrounds and walks of life. I have developed good relationships with my students because of my ability to connect with them, as well as the amount of empathy that I have for them. I also recognize that each student is different, which allows me to motivate each student differently, depending on what works for them. Teaching and coaching have also taught me valuable skills, such as public speaking and patience and has allowed me to strengthen my leadership skills and my problem-solving skills. My goal is to become a Clinical Psychologist, though I am open-minded about my future as long as it involves Psychology. Ultimately, I want to continue to be in a position where I can help others, as that is where I gain my fulfillment.
