About Daniel Sylvester

I started with Lansing PD in 1981 as a law enforcement Explorer Scout, becoming a full-time Officer in 1985. Over the next 28 years I was able to progress with my career, retiring as a Lieutenant. Being in a midsize agency allowed participation in many facets of law enforcement and to work with some great individuals in law enforcement as well as the community. Three of the most rewarding aspects were training, working with Law Enforcement Explorer Scouts and working with our canines, which are incredible animals-especially my partner, Prince. After trying retirement, I learned that I still need to work to thrive. This in turn led to positions as Patrol Captain, then Site Manager at Cleveland-Cliffs IHE where we work to improve safety and security for the largest flat-rolled steel producer and supplier of iron ore pellets in North America. Wherever I have worked, my focus has been on a strong work ethic, learning new skills, integrity, mastering my job and getting things done. I enjoy learning and strive to improve myself and my knowledge on a daily basis. If you're not learning, you're not growing! Good advice received along the way: Do the job because you love it. Treat people the way you would want your family treated. Don't do anything you wouldn't want your family to read about in the newspaper.
