About Daniel Townsend

I enjoy finding technical, operational, and policy changes to improve my client's earnings. Generally, I do this through systematic effort to model technical and operational processes, development of alternative system improvements, and by providing clear analysis of the financial and technical impact for my clients' review. Areas of interest include- Modeling and Simulation of technical & operational processes - Evaluation of Engineering Systems - Statistical Analysis and Statistical Quality Control - Identification & analysis of improvement opportunities - Operations Research and Systems Analysis (ORSA)- Reliability Analysis My professional history includes experience within the maritime industry as a licensed Marine Engineer and Mate, the nuclear industry as a Nuclear Shift Test Engineer (S5W reactors), and as an Engineering Manager for a variety of positions within the private and public sectors. As a US Naval Reserve officer I served in the US Merchant Marine Reserve, the US Joint Forces Intelligence Command, and NATO Intel at SACLANT. Previous work includes senior positions within the DoD and the private sector. In addition to USCG licenses I have qualified as a Professional Engineer, an ASQ Certified Quality Engineer, an AEE Certified Energy Manager, and have completed all training (but not the projects) for a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt. My education includes dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Marine Engineering and Marine Transportation from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, a Master’s degree with honors in Engineering Management from ODU, and 30 credit hours toward a PhD in Engineering Management from ODU.
