I am an international trade, transportation, energy, security, and government affairs attorney that provides end-to-end counsel across Canada-U.S, North American and global supply chains. My legal experience includes in-house, private practice, government, trade association and academic service. My counsel includes customs compliance, tariff mitigation, use of preferential trade agreements such as the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), government procurement programs such as Buy America(n), foreign trade zone (FTZ) operations, logistics, warehousing/3PL and procurement agreements, homeland security, economic development, public policy and government relations. I am the Associate General Counsel at Cenovus Energy, a Canada-U.S. integrated energy company with oil and natural gas production operations in Canada and the Asia-Pacific region, and upgrading, refining and marketing operations in Canada and the United States. I am also the Honorary Consul of the Government of Canada to Ohio, following service as an officer in Canada’s foreign ministry where I worked towards improving North America’s borders and ports-of-entry. I previously directed the Canada-U.S. practice for an AM Law 200 law firm and later joined a large international trade and transportation practice. For nearly a decade, I was a visiting law professor and managed a lab that served as a legal adviser to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. I was a career law clerk in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio where I participated in various civil and criminal litigation matters. I am a member of the District Export Council (DEC) for the Northern District of Ohio appointed by the U.S. Sec. of Commerce, and a Life Member of the Association of Ohio Commodores appointed by the Governor of Ohio. I am the U.S. Vice Chair for the North American Strategy for Competitiveness (NASCO), chair the Trade committee of the American Chamber of Commerce in Canada (AMCHAM Canada), the President of the Ohio-Canada Business Association (OHIO-CAN) and a board member of the Canada-U.S. Business Association (CUSBA). I am a frequent speaker at trade and industry events and regularly provide commentary to the media. I am a proud native of the Mahoning Valley, Cleveland sports fan and a diehard "Buckeye".
