About Daniela Duc

Daniela is currently a Lecturer in Pharmaceuticals and Health Technologies at Cardiff University (Wales, UK). She is specialised in Health Sciences and Biomedical Engineering. Her areas of expertise are in biomaterials, drug delivery & testing (oncology), tissue engineering, neuroengineering, biodevices, bioethics, and translational health sciences (neuroscience)(rel. UN SDG 3, 12 and 13). She obtained a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering (2021) which lay at the crossroads of neuroscience, biomaterials, and biodevices (Australia). Daniela was awarded a Certificate in Innovation and Entrepreneurship in 2017 (Australia). She also holds a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences (UK, 2011) and a Diploma in Medical Sciences (France, 2015).Research and R&D: Daniela has experience in both academic and industry research. Through the various projects she has been involved in, she gained experience in project management, patent, biomaterials design, advanced characterisation, chemical synthesis, microfabrication, cleanroom environments, and cell biology techniques (cell culture, stem cells, iPSC, neuromodulation, drug-testing & delivery, histology, biocompatibility, etc). She has presented at several conferences and has published high-impact research manuscripts. Daniela received several awards including the Institute of Biomedical Science President’s Prize (2011) and a commendation at the HDR Outstanding Article Award (2019) amongst others. Current interests include advanced biomaterials relevant to neurotech applications, neurological disorders, neuroinflammation, amongst others.Teaching: Daniela is also passionate about STEMM Higher Education (HE) Teaching (UN SDG 4). Her teaching specialty lies within the Biomedical Engineering (biomaterials) and Health Sciences, within which she has acquired valuable experience of pedagogical approaches (compassionate pedagogy and student-centered learning methods), assessment and evaluation. She has extensive HE teaching experience (delivery of lectures, tutorials, workshops, lab demonstrations, marking, moderation, etc.). She was awarded a Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in HE, where she gained strong proficiency in curriculum design and assessment. Daniela also has experience in supervising undergraduate research projects, mentoring graduate research students, academic skills support and pastoral care of students.
