About Daniela Tirnovan

As a lecturer at Brooklyn College and a doctoral candidate at Rutgers University, I have over five years of experience in creating, managing, and delivering educational opportunities for linguistically and culturally diverse students and teachers. My core competencies include communication, critical thinking, creativity, and innovation, which I apply to my research and teaching in mathematics education. My mission is to foster student dialogue, meaning-making, and reasoning in the mathematics classroom, using translanguaging strategies, responsible conversation, and technology. I collaborate with pre-service and in-service teachers to identify and implement best practices for elementary kids and mathematics instruction, especially for bilingual students. I also conduct research on how students learn rational numbers and what a student-centered learning environment looks like from a translanguaging and culturally relevant pedagogical perspective. My personal experiences as a multilingual student fuel my passion for this work and my hope to help all students achieve their academic potential.
