Background
About Danielle A. Sanchez
What do you get when you combine the scientific and technical knowledge of an experienced research associate, the writing skills of a published Master’s Degree holder, and the communication skills of someone passionate about continuous self-improvement? Your next Medical Writer! I am a Senior Research Associate looking to break into medical writing. With me, I bring the following skills and experience: Publication history: 1 original research article and 1 book chapter Project management skills: 1 (published) Master’s degree thesis, 2 GMP reagent qualifications, and 1 lab closure project Ability to simplify & explain complex topics: 3.5 years of teaching experience between tutoring and a graduate teaching assistantship Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams: 2 years of being a research associate and a lab manager for all on-site teams Furthermore, I possess strong foundational knowledge of cellular and molecular biology concepts, research methods, and the drug discovery and development pipeline. I have direct research experience in the following therapeutic areas: oncology, microbiome biology, infectious disease, and malaria biology. So, why the career pivot? Last year, I sustained a severe orthopedic injury that required surgery and intensive physical therapy to fix. Everything in my life screeched to a halt, and suddenly I had all this time to reflect on my life, priorities, and career. I did a lot of soul-searching and realized two things: 1. Labwork may be fulfilling, but it’s nowhere near as fulfilling as helping other people achieve their goals. I need my career to have the biggest positive impact possible while still being something I enjoy doing every day. When I first came across medical writing, I knew immediately that it was the right path for me to turn my realizations into reality. How could it not, when it combines my three favorite things? After all, I have spent my entire academic career committed to studying science, I spend much of my free time working on my novels, and I am constantly seizing opportunities to improve my communication skills. Add in the ability to create a measurable positive impact on the lives of patients through education or facilitation of drug approvals, and I am captivated. At the moment, I am exploring two paths: medical communication (patient education or continuing education for health professionals) and regulatory writing (preclinical or clinical). If any of this resonates with you, let’s chat! Here’s my email: d.snider11235@gmail.com
