What would you say if I asked you “why?” Growing up, I would constantly get in trouble for being curious, talkative, and asking “why?” Why was there only one way to solve a problem? Why did I have to solve the math equation the exact same way my teacher did even though my process came to the same conclusion? The list goes on. I always wondered why asking such a simple question was so strange for most people. Now I know. People don’t like to be asked “why”. They don’t want to be challenged and change the way they operate and frankly, I disagree. Without disruption, without asking “why”, how would we evolve? How would we improve our technological processes without someone asking “why?” Such a simple word can have so much meaning, that now I challenge myself each day to ask for the “why?” I want to know the value of the task I am fulfilling, and I want to know if it can be improved. In my current position, I strive to improve myself and the processes handed down to me. I work with countless customers, manufacturing sites, and individuals across different teams. Without seeking to understand my customers’ needs, I would not have been able to provide an analytical tool that shows my customers the status of their products. Without challenging the processes I was given, I would not have been able to create a report that shows production levels and if we truly can meet our customers’ demands. All of this stemmed from me asking “why?” I challenge myself daily to find the reason behind what I do and improve it for those who come after me. I strive to create new opportunities and find areas for growth because I believe there is always more than one way to solve a problem. I want to be part of that solution. As a young individual starting out my career, I understand how I might seem less qualified than others, but why? I am an organized, hard-working, and dedicated individual that seeks opportunities to improve my knowledge base and grow my career. Where I lack years of experience, I feel I bring a new perspective and insight into each project I take on. I seek to understand the current processes in place so that I can improve them for future individuals. This is what drives me in my career.
