Background
About Danielle E. Williams
I am an Associate Professor of Film at Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) teaching face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses in film, TV, social media, and communication. When I started at GGC in 2013, the introduction to film course was an option to fulfill the arts/literature area within GGC's core curriculum requirements. With the growth of the media industries in Georgia and the school's close proximity to Atlanta, there was a need for a four-year degree. Working with Stacy Rusnak, we designed a Bachelor of Arts in Cinema & Media Arts Production (CMAP) with concentrations in Design & Production, Entertainment Industry Studies, and Writing for Stage & Screen. For this degree, I created courses in TV Studies, Race & Media, and Media Industries as part of the curriculum design. When the degree started in fall 2017, we had 61 students; there are currently over 500 students in the CMAP program. My interest in online learning started during my time at Kennesaw State University. In 2011, I taught my first hybrid courses in communication. At GGC, I continued my hybrid teaching training through our Center for Teaching Excellence and taught the first hybrid section of introduction to film at GGC. In 2016, I taught my first fully online course (New Media and Social Networking: Identity and Expression Online). In 2021, I earned the Teaching Online Certificate through Quality Matters (QM). Using my QM training, I have designed and taught synchronous and asynchronous courses for introduction to film, social media studies, and media and society. My goal is to have the introduction to film course QM certified. Once this is complete, I will continue working on online curriculum development for the CMAP program. When I am not in the classroom, I mentor and advise students. I use LinkedIn to show them the variety of careers available depending on their area of study. This also will explain why a film professor has looked at your profile.
