Background
About Danielle Georgiou
I currently work in the third sector within the Criminal Justice System advocating and supporting women. I have a strong passion for women's rights, crime prevention, child protection and for understanding the roles of trauma, misogyny and the impact of how this effects society. I have developed my expertise from my lived experiences, MSc at in Forensic and Investigative Psychology, completed with a distinction, and multiple person centred roles. This includes my research pilot study, reporting empirically based and original research titled ‘ "Erm.Girls are only good for sex" A pluralist IPA and FST case study of the role of misogyny and trauma in the lived experience of female criminality’. I have recently began a new venture as an accredited Trainer for VictimFocus, to help educate and reform societies understanding of trauma informed practise, victim blaming and perspectives of child sexual exploitation. My aim is to share knowledge in a safe, reflective and interactive way to support and engage others to think critically about current theories and models used in professional practice. I currently volunteer for 2 charities to support vulnerable people and I also have a license to facilitate Phoenix Workshops with Oasis DA charity. Alongside my career, I am an enthusiastic and evolving martial artist, training intermittently since the age of 7, and currently a 1st Dan in WadoRyu karate and 1st Dan in kickboxing. I am training to be a martial arts instructor to develop my own and others leadership skills with KL:UK. Whilst studying for my Bsc (Hon) degree in Humanities and Psychology with the Open University, I dealt with some health issues, that left me disabled suffering from chronic pain and mobility issues. However, I now manage this as part of my life on a day to day basis and this has enabled me to have a wider perspective on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion issues, especially within the workplace, giving me the opportunity to advocate for others. I enjoy creative arts such as singing, listening to music, going to the theatre, museums, reading, writing, drawing as well as learning and reading academic research in my chosen topics of interest in Psychology, evolution, history and anthropology. I also have a love for cooking, baking and trying new foods/techniques. I like to travel and experience new places when possible and have a keen interest in nature/animals, conservation, eco living and Japan.
