About Danielle Jamison

My science journey boils down to one word: interdisciplinary. My passion for the brain began in high school when I took Advanced Placement Psychology. This passion led me to attend college in San Antonio at Trinity University, where I majored in Neuroscience. My research interests lay elsewhere, however. I joined a basic biochemistry and molecular biology laboratory that researched pre-messenger RNA splicing. I combined my knowledge of protein biochemistry and neuroscience in my graduate research studying neurodegenerative diseases and cognitive resilience. I conducted this work at the University of Texas Medical Branch while earning my MS in Pharmacology and Toxicology. My background may not seem to have a common thread. But one thing united all these interdisciplinary endeavors: my passion for sharing science. I loved creating and giving presentations, writing papers, or talking science with other students over coffee. Moreover, I was passionate about communicating science in a way everyone could understand. I remember what it was like to learn a new topic and how alienating it could feel when others were discussing it in what felt like another language. These feelings drove me to perfect my elevator pitch and compete in the 3-Minute Thesis competitions. I am fortunate to apply my skills and passions in my current positions as a Technical Writer at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and Communications Lead at NovoThelium.
