About Danielle Lagrone

Working in online post-secondary education since 2007, I am an educator, content creator, and course designer. What I love most about what I do is helping students learn and expand their skills as critical thinkers and communicators. Online education affords accessibility to so many resources and strong communities of fellow learners. I have been lucky enough to work in organizations that take online learning seriously and support educators to create online environments where students thrive. I am a Continuing Adjunct Professor at Queen's University in the department of Religion, where I teach the first-year survey course on World Religions. Initially teaching in-person (2005 and 2006), I was tasked with translating an older correspondence version of the course into an accessible and dynamic online offering for students; I have been teaching and redesigning this course ever since. Since 2018 I have also served as a regular instructor at the University of Guelph-Humber, where I teach courses on Asian and Western religions, as well as direct a study abroad course to Japan. Teaching both online and in-person at Guelph-Humber has given me the opportunity to develop my skills in communication, classroom leadership, and making online learning something that students love. In 2021 I began teaching writing at Humber College, both in-person and in online classrooms. I lead classes on critical reading and writing, professional writing, and writing in healthcare. I work with students to develop their skills in grammar, style, and content. As a writer, I incorporate the value of written communication in all my courses by crafting assessments that not only include writing, but emphasize the process and construction of writing itself. As a writing coach in the Queen's University Writing Program (online), I also work one-on-one with students, not only evaluating their work but helping them to build their skills with each successive assignment through extensive feedback and support. Here I work primarily in courses for writing in professional contexts and writing for social media and the web. My experience as an educator, writer, and course designer has opened the doors for many opportunities in post-secondary education. I look forward to new opportunities as they come.
