About Danielle Murchie

I am a case manager at the Yakima Union Gospel Mission, I will have worked in this position for 1 year in June 2022. My role as a case manager is to use interpersonal skills to build trust with our homeless clients to best assess their needs. After I have completed an assessment the data is entered into our profile tracker, and then the clients needs are met. My role requires me to be hospitable, an advocate, a supporter, empathetic, diversion coaching, and to connect the client with the right resources specific to their needs. I am also apart of a team, that meats weekly to discuss and problem solve shelter and guest situations. Daily we discuss mental health, substance abuse, wound care, respite care, and treatment options. My education at Northwest University has prepared me to work with clients who experience mental health problems, ACEs, and systemic oppression. I have gained the knowledge to not only understand the suffering individual but also the systems in place that have contributed to their current state of being. My job is to help navigate the client through the barriers that have kept them in homelessness, and coach them as they integrate back into society successfully. Before working as a case manager I worked at the Yakima Union Gospel Mission's thrift stores as the processing manager. I received donations, managed a team, and oversaw the operations of processing. While I worked at the store, homeless individuals would stop by to talk, I found myself wanting to work directly with these people. My whole life I have wanted to advocate for people who feel they have no voice. I also enjoy researching, learning, trainings, attending community coalition meetings, and volunteering in community outreach. I am currently taking Spanish classes.
