Background

About Danielle Ouillette

Professionalism: My professional career has encompassed twenty eight years of experience in leadership, teaching, developing and facilitating professional development, conducting and applying research, and educating and guiding adults and students. Creating a culture and environment that is welcoming has been a strength of mine. This ability to create a positive culture and climate has supported individual and organizational learning and growth. I have been committed to reflection and continuous evolution by setting personal goals, engaging in continuous learning, and exchanging knowledge and ideas with others. Leadership: Knowing that the most innovative ideas arise from working with a team of differing perspectives, strengths, and approaches, I have been committed to an atmosphere that is accepting of others and embraces all individuals for the unique qualities and gifts that each brings to a classroom or organization. Having strong communication skills, along with an ability to develop relationships and build connections with others, has aided in assembling and collaborating with a diverse group of individuals who hold a team-centric mindset focused on solution-based, innovative approaches to tackling complex issues. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: I am passionate about ensuring institutions and organizations value an equitable, inclusive, and diverse environment. My doctoral research focused on educational equity and social justice for underrepresented groups. The findings confirmed the need for support in this area as individuals do not often recognize unconscious biases that may interfere with equity and inclusivity in the classroom or workplace. People come from different cultures and backgrounds. There are differences in family structure, gender, ethnicity, ability, religion, sexual identity and orientation, and even age. All of these aspects coupled with each individual’s unique experience shapes their perspective and identity. Institutions and organizations have the responsibility to foster awareness, inclusion and acceptance of others’ differences. Diversity in schools and in the workplace provides individuals with opportunities to learn from others who differ from themselves. Inclusivity and acceptance demonstrates that each person is valued. It encourages people to be kind and considerate, reduces discrimination, and increases collaboration and engagement. DEI initiatives foster creativity, diverse perspectives and understandings that build a culture of respect, thus, making the workplace more comfortable and productive.
