I believe that the key to effective teams is the ability for a leader to listen first and then lead. Being able to listen to team members, their ideas, their expertise, and their passion enables a good leader to make the best decisions. Over the years I have learned that different people communicate in different ways and that a good leader learns to adjust to those ways of communicating rather than expecting others to adjust to him. I have learned how to communicate to drive action. I have learned that the right words on social media can create real connections with a brand. The right words and pictures in an e-mail can spur people to give generously to a cause. In the same way, the right words can inspire a team and drives successful projects. I have also learned that sometimes it is best to be silent and listen. It’s a bit of art, a bit of science and whole lot of practice. I have worn many hats in my career - product manager, program manager, content producer, writer, business developer, trainer, volunteer manager, marketer, and strategist. It has enabled me to very adept at navigating the nuances of leading diverse teams to success.+ I see big, complex problems as puzzles to be solved not obstacles to be faced.+ I talk excellent geek and enjoy delving deep into technical problems and business requirements.+ I enjoy listening to smart people and love taking good advice.+ I love sharing what I know to those who are interested.+ I love superheroes and comic books, Shakespeare and Monet, and a good musical.
