About Danny Gaskin

Danny is a Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered Biomedical Scientist and Patient Blood Management Practitioner at NHS Blood and Transplant. With a successful track record of leading blood transfusion services, Danny has experience in both the NHS and independent pathology sectors. Danny began his career in the NHS in 2008, in primary care management and clinical governance. In 2016, he was elected to the council of East Lancashire Medical Services, offering operational and strategic leadership in primary care services within the region. Initially, Danny pursued a BSc in Adult Nursing. However, in 2014, he retrained as a Biomedical Scientist. He holds a first-class BSc (Hons) degree in Biomedical Science from the University of Salford, where he also received the university's award for Exceptional Performance on a Biomedicine Programme. Additionally, he undertook postgraduate studies in Blood Transfusion at the University of Greenwich, where he earned a pass with distinction and received commendation for outstanding academic performance. Danny further expanded his knowledge through additional studies at both the University of Greenwich and Cumbria University, studying clinical governance, quality and risk management, and clinical mentorship. Danny is a Fellow of the British Blood Transfusion Society. He contributes to various national specialist interest groups and working groups and provides support to the National, Regional, and Hospital Blood Transfusion Committees in England. He is as a Guest Lecturer in Biomedical Science and Module Lead for the British Blood Transfusion Society Specialist Certificate in Clinical Transfusion Practice. He is Co-Chair of the Biomedical Scientist Empowerment, Education, and Discussion Group. In addition, he provides mentorship to biomedical scientists and students through mentorship schemes at the University of Salford and Lancaster University. In 2022, Danny was honoured with the Academy for Healthcare Science Award for Inspiring the Healthcare Science Workforce of the Future at the UK Advancing Healthcare Awards. During the same year, he was also presented with the Bill Chaffe Unsung Hero Award at the British Blood Transfusion Society Annual Conference and was named among the nominees for the 2022 NHS England Chief Scientific Officer’s Excellence in Healthcare Science Awards. In 2019, Danny was the recipient of the UK Advancing Healthcare Awards Rising Star Award.
