About Danny Helmick

Started out working in the customer service industry at 16 with a few different fast food restaurants. Then, as I got older and graduated High School, I joined the United States Military and became a U.S. Marine at the age of 19. Unfortunately, I had a few issues with my feet so I was only able to do 3 and a half years of my contract. I was a Marine Corps reservists, so I was able to work a few different jobs. I worked as an Correctional Officer at Tygart Valley Regional Jail for a year. I resigned as a Correctional Officer and then became an Asset Protection Associate for Walmart. I then decided I wanted to go to school to continue my education and do something else with my life. I began studying forest technology at Glenville State University at the age of 22 and it was through school that I found the Appalachian Forest National Heritage Area, where I currently serve as the Pollinator Coordinator. My experiences tie in well with my current position, as this career requires a lot of people skills, communication and community involvement. I am always looking to improve and to learn as much as I can, all while trying to make a difference in my life and the people who I am surrounded by.
