About Danny Obrien

Dr. Danny O’Brien is an Associate Professor, Sport Management, and Higher Degree Research Director in the Bond Business School at Bond University, Gold Coast, Australia. He is also a Visiting Professor at the Center for Surf Research, San Diego State University, California; and a Visiting Research Fellow at Plymouth Sustainability and Surfing Research Group at Plymouth University, UK. Danny is a graduate of Australian Catholic University, Sydney; California State University, Long Beach, and in he completed a PhD in sport management at DeMontfort University, England. His doctoral thesis explored organisational change and the professionalisation of rugby union in England. Danny currently teaches in the areas of sport governance, event management, and organisational behaviour. His research interests are in sustainable surf tourism, event leveraging, and organisational change. He served as Associate Editor of Sport Management Review from 2013-2015, and currently serves on the Editorial Boards of Sport Management Review, Journal of Sport and Tourism and Event Management. Danny has presented his work at over 20 international conferences and published dozens of book chapters and articles in peer-reviewed journals such as Annals of Tourism Research; European Journal of Marketing; International Journal of Culture, Tourism and Hospitality Research; Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Research; Journal of Sport Management; Sport Management Review; European Sport Management Quarterly; Journal of Sustainable Tourism; and, Journal of Leisure Research.
