Joined the Goshen Fire Department November 06, 1981 and retired November 06, 2024. In my time at GFD I held the rank of Lieutenant, Captain Paramedic, Chief of EMS, Assistant Chief and Fire Chief. I also participated on the dive team and fire investigations. I served as Fire Chief for the last 19 years of my career. During my career I also served as a part-time flight paramedic for Parkview Samaritan for 19 years. I served on the Board of Directors of the Indiana Fire Chiefs Association (IFCA) from 2006 until my retirement; serving two times as board president. I was a member and past president of the Great Lakes Division (GLD) of the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC)board of directors from 2011 -2024. Served as President of the Elkhart County Fire Chiefs Association from 2008 - 2024. Served as a member of the Elkhart County Public Safety Communication Center Board of directors from 2005 until November 2024. I deployed as a Type All Hazards Incident Management Team Operations Section Chief to the tornado outbreak in Henryville, IN and Hurricane Sandy. I am currently president of the Indiana Fire Alliance. I have experience in testimony at the Indiana statehouse on behalf of the Indiana Fire Chief’s Association and lobbying for fire and EMS service issues on the “Hill” in Washington DC on behalf of the Great Lakes Division - IAFC
