Background
About Dante Travisany
Dr. Dante Travisany is a Bioinformatician Engineer with a Ph.D. in Complex Systems Engineering. For more than ten years, he has worked at the University of Chile as a researcher at the Center for Mathematical Modeling and the Center for Genome Regulation. Now, he is an associate professor and the director of the Núcleo de Investigación en Data Science (NIDS) and the Genomics Bioinformatics Diploma at the Universidad de las Américas (CL). He is an expert in Genomics, System Biology, and Machine Learning and has been a lecturer for more than 14 years, teaching bioinformatics and data science. His work is related to machine learning and focuses on genomics and applying System Biology to unveil complex interactions between the regulation and the metabolism of specific organisms and microbial communities. He has worked in genomics of bioleaching microorganisms (Travisany et al, 2012; Travisany et al, 2014) and then moved to a broader spectrum of organisms from prokaryotic pathogens to human genomes (Pulgar et al, 2016; Huang et al, 2015; Yáñez et al, 2020; Vidal et al, 2019). In machine learning, he has worked on classification algorithms for metagenomics samples (Travisany et al, 2014) and developed evolutionary algorithms to generate models for understanding the interactions in microbiome communities (Travisany et al, 2020). In System Biology, he has worked on the theoretical aspect of transcriptional regulation (Downarowicz et al, 2014), the transcriptomic analysis of microorganisms and gene regulatory networks (DebRoy et al, 2016; Latorre et al, 2018; Zúñiga, 2020), genome-scale metabolic models (Loira et al, 2017; Cortes et al, 2017), and the integration of these models with regulatory networks to infer optimal metabolic pathways for bioleaching processes (Cortés et al, 2020).
