About Danu Utama

I’m excited to share that I am currently pursuing my PhD in the Department of Naval Architecture, Ocean, and Marine Engineering at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. My research dives into the sustainability of fishing vessels, especially through the innovative framework of circular economy principles. I bring with me an undergraduate degree in naval architecture and shipbuilding engineering and a master’s degree in marine production technology and Materials, both proudly obtained from Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) in Surabaya, Indonesia. I possess more than two years of professional experience as an Engineer at PT. Adiluhung Saranasegara Indonesia, where I specialised in the design of ships for production. Subsequently, I embarked on a career as a lecturer at the Department of Naval Architecture, ITS, Surabaya, where I have actively engaged in teaching, research, and community service. My research initiatives and outreach efforts have predominantly concentrated on small-scale vessels, particularly fishing boats, which involve both design innovation and construction processes. Pursuing a PhD is a natural progression of my passion for advancing knowledge in sustainable ship design and for contributing to the betterment of small-scale fishing communities. With expertise in naval architecture and a strong commitment to sustainability, I aim to drive impactful research and foster collaboration in the maritime industry.
