About Daphna Oyserman
Daphna Oyserman (Dean’s Professor of Psychology, Communication, Education) co-directs the Mind & Society Center at the University of Southern California. Her research addresses the situated and context-sensitive nature of culture, identity, and motivation. She starts with the idea that thinking is for doing; people do not think outside of contexts, they think about themselves and their possibilities in terms of what seems relevant in context. With funding from the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Education, the W. T. Grant Foundation, and the Templeton Foundation, her research focuses on cognitive and behavioral consequences of identity-based motivation and culture-as-situated cognition. Among her honors are Web of Science impact awards and she is the 2018 winner of the Society of Personality and Social Psychology's Application of Social and Personality Psychology Award.
