Background
About Daphne McGuffin
Since I have been focused on the thought leadership for family enterprises, designing, developing and delivering transition planning educational programs, hands-on strategic planning sessions, and the establishment of governance and communication strategies for entrepreneurial and family businesses, member associations, charitable and not for profit organizations through The SuccessCare® Program and more recently BDO’s Transition Services. I am excited to announce that I will continue to provide these services and more within my new company D3 LEARNING SOLUTIONS. In my role as a family enterprise consultant and learning solutions provider, I help business families: • Design and execute an integrated plan for building, protecting and transitioning the three types of capital that are essential to the success of the family enterprise. • Understand the steps in creating a family legacy and/or regeneration of the family firm. • Define their strategic direction and engage key stakeholders in developing a plan of action for growth and sustainability. • Develop an exit strategy and a plan for passing the baton to the next generation. • Guide the next generation in preparing for leadership. • Manage their differing perspectives and deploy proven techniques for getting alignment. • Enhance communication, decision-making, problem-solving and governance in their family enterprise or family office. • Establish and run a family council. I also support the governing boards of member associations and not for profit organizations who value this approach to transition and strategic planning. They too need to be proactive in dealing with the transition of directors and ensuring alignment. I guide them in: • Defining their Core Ideology comprising their core values, a compelling vision for the future, and a mission that reflects imperatives. • Setting clearly-defined objectives, goals and outcomes for the future and strategic initiatives for achieving their mission and vision. • Incorporating input from key stakeholder groups to promote engagement, alignment, and commitment. • Developing a performance management process for the implementation of the plan that promotes accountability using best practices and performance metrics. A key part of my approach is to help people identify and utilize their core strengths to enhance their productivity, their relationships with others in their family or teams, and their overall communication and decision-making approach. I support the use of Kolbe and CliftonStrengths tools for helping people be their best selves.
