About Dara McGee

Dara McGee has worked in various industries such as journalism and communications, office administration, research, and early childhood education just to name a few. With each role, she has acquired a multitude of different skill sets. Currently, she is a Teacher/Therapeutic Assistant Paraprofessional at Blue Bird Day, an intensive pediatric therapy program designed to foster socialization, sensory regulation and learning in children with therapeutic rotations that simulate a preschool and kindergarten setting. Dara’s mission is to advocate for black and brown children with neurodivergent abilities and educate the families of these children; helping support their children to the fullest. With her early childhood education and mental health background, she would like to receive her masters in a focus related to early childhood education or child development. After that? The possibilities are endless! However, the journey will most likely revolve around the well being of children and their developmental health. Activism and advocacy are extremely important to McGee, as she spreads awareness to the public on global femicide rates, liberatory harm reduction, and mental health assistance accessibility. In the future, McGee will expound upon her research interests pertaining to sexual trauma and chronic illness (specifically interstitial cystitis) as well as the effects of sexual trauma amongst black and brown individuals. In her free time, you can find Dara writing poetry, making clay jewelry, practicing her viola, baking/cooking or trying to find the best macarons in the city of Chicago.
