About Darcy Riva

I am a Chemical/Petroleum Engineer with a track record of tackling daunting projects and finding a way to make them economic. My experience in many technical aspects of these projects and my ability to collaborate within strong multi-function teams has resulted in progressive leadership roles. My ideal work environment is a place of sharing strategic ideas, using technology to solve problems, and provides the opportunity to continually learn and develop. I approach new problems or opportunities with curiosity, collaborate with team members, and persistently work any issues to meet project cost, time, and quality objectives.* Succeeded in generating a start-up production forecast for PetroChina’s bbl/d MacKay River Project (MRCP) in 2016, in the absence of historical production data, which was required to fulfill the commissioning schedule for a new 400 km pipeline. By achieving the forecast, the pipeline commissioning was completed as planned and PCC’s first sales contracts were satisfied.* Spearheaded the testing and commercial advancement of the Grosmont formation from 2008-2015. Successfully managed the team through concept development, regulatory process, pilot design and safe operation.* Recipient of the 2014 APEGA Summit Award for Project Achievement as part of the Saleski Pilot team.* Coordinated the bbl/d Saleski Commercial project successfully through internal sanctioning for approximately $520 million.* Evaluated, selected and implemented several new technologies including early SAGD lift systems, downhole instrumentation, multi-phase flowmeters, polymer dilation, thermal reservoir exploitation methods.* Fortunate to have gained extensive experience and a practical understanding of SAGD from working the early development and ramp-up of the Suncor Firebag project. Supported the drilling rig for the initial wells, part of the team that commissioned the facility, hands-on production engineer for the start-up and first two years of operation of the wells. Managed production as it ramped up to bbl/d.* Co-Author of several technical papers and presentations. Received the Dr. R.M. Butler Memorial Best Paper Presented at CIPC 2009 Award for work on the Grand Rapids reservoir.* Entrusted to facilitate the annual Reserves and Resources reports with third party consultants between 2010 and 2019.* Completed a career transition program through Higher Landing - Grizzly Certified.
