DARNELL THOMAS, a Canadian-born artist with Trinidadian roots, is celebrated for his versatility as a vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, music director, educator, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. Recently featured in The York University Magazine for his exceptional voice pedagogical practices, Darnell has garnered widespread acclaim for his ability to “fine-tune voices in musical theatre and beyond.” Holding a Master’s degree in Vocal Performance & Ethnomusicology and a career spanning 20+ years in the industry, he brings an unparalleled depth of expertise to his work. As a full-time Vocal Professor in the prestigious Music Theatre Program at Sheridan College, Darnell is deeply committed to the holistic development of aspiring performers. His mentorship extends beyond the classroom through his leadership as Co-Director of The Institute for the Performing Arts and Cue The Lights Productions, where he fosters a new generation of talent. Darnell’s voice studio is a testament to his versatility, with students spanning from passionate hobbyists to award-winning professionals featured on platforms like American Idol, in major film and TV productions, and on international theatre stages. His expansive career includes musical contributions to hit TV shows such as Glee and Disney’s “Overruled!”, as well as notable music directorial credits for productions like Little Shop of Horrors, Urinetown, Hairspray, Footloose, Beauty & The Beast, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Mamma Mia, and his original work Enchanting. A passionate advocate for the arts, Darnell is also deeply involved in philanthropic efforts. Through his work with UNESCO, The Arts Access Fund, and his own Keys To Dreams Foundation, these organizations provide crucial financial support and scholarships to emerging performers. Darnell is a proud member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, the Musical Theatre Educators’ Alliance, and ACTRA RACS.
