I have been a very competent DIYer with various jobs being undertaken for friends and family. These jobs have included fitting wardrobes to resealing baths and shower trays to constructing stud walls to include doors and its furniture. In my current role I have learnt about a basic level of health and safety this has included items such as preventing slips trips and falls, correct manual handling techniques, reporting procedure and whose responsibility it is for health and safety. This has also been further expanded as I have recently completed an Asbestos Awareness Cat A course which has enabled me to recognise potential hazardous situations where asbestos is a possible risk and what an appropriate response to it's risk and reporting. This course was undertaken on a personal basis as I will be starting my own business as a part time handyman. Again to this end I am working towards gaining my CSCS green card and also a working at height course, both of these courses will enable a better understanding and working of the health and safety within a construction based environment but also will be transferable to other sectors of potential employment. Again in my current role I have a vast amount of experience liaising with outside agencies, for example social workers, homelessness departments as well as heads of service and have also worked closely with the head of social care at Walsall Council to set up a Homeless Mental Health Service in Walsall, also workmen with the NHS property services. Through this experience has enabled me to develop skills that are transferable to a property maintenance role in how to liaise with others whilst being capable of conversing with people as equals and showing people the service and gaining what was required at that moment in time whether it be funding or showing a person around a building to indicate the service needs, and at times having to negotiate on these requirements. Within my previous role as a Psychiatric Nurse I have had to learn how to work with people that can be potentially hostile and to de-escalate possible volatile situations. This has been done through learning about people’s body language, tone and volume of voice and facial expressions as well as obviously what it is the person is saying. I am capable to complete basic have plumbing, joinery or carpentry, electrical. However, I have decorated various homes including my own and also my parents and parents in law homes. I am willing to learn and am capable person that can turn his hand to most things that are required
