Background
About Darren R Mann
Darren R. Mann is an award-winning Writer/Director/Editor and founder of Mann-made Pictures. His films include: ARCTIC VOID (Level 33 Entertainment)- a feature sci-fi thriller. It was shot by 16 people in 16 days only 350 miles from the North Pole. It is the northern most narrative film ever made. THIS COLD LIFE for TIME Inc, which premiered at Hot Docs Film Festival in Toronto and went on to win several audience awards at festivals around the world. This documentary takes an intimate look at the lives of the colorful characters that choose to live in the northernmost town in the world. It was picked up by Sundance/AMC Channel. AMERICAN DREAM: DETROIT - Singer Michael Bolton takes a look at the remarkable economic comeback taking place in downtown Detroit; STATE OF CONTROL (Filmbuff), taking a first-hand look at the China/Tibet crisis in the hi-tech age. Their undercover cameras were some of the only ones to film inside Tibet since the state-mandated media blackout in the region; FIGHTF*CKPRAY - which premiered at the Atlanta Int’l Film Festival. Filmed in a "Dogme 95" style, it is the story of seven individuals whose lives intensely intersect at a party on New Year's Eve; AMERICAN SUMO (iNDEMAND), following 4 very different people from the US on a quest for sumo gold. Darren also edited the indie hit SEPTEMBER TAPES, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and sold to First Look International. In addition to films, Darren has directed/produced over 50 hours of broadcast television for such networks as Nat Geo, Discovery, VH-1, and ESPN, including a 20-episode animal conservation series, UNCAGED. His work has led him to such areas as Antarctica, Nepal, Europe, China, India, Africa, Tibet, The Arctic Circle and the jungles of Borneo, Panama and South America. Darren’s passion for real characters and human behavior is at the very heart of his filmmaking. He holds a degree in Film from Emerson College in Boston, and currently lives in the beachside town of Venice with a cranky hairless cat.
