About Darren Teh

As a software developer intern at Meta, I contributed to the development of new features for WhatsApp Web, such as switching app language for 50+ locales and improving wallpaper customization. I also resolved a time-sensitive SEV that caused a 2% drop in reliability for all users, and initiated discussions to rethink existing implementation ideas for improved long-term accessibility, customization, and feature and code quality. In addition to my internship at Meta, I am currently pursuing a Master's degree in Computer Science at the University of California, Berkeley, where I am conducting research on machine learning and databases with a PhD student at Sky Computing Lab. I am designing and training machine learning architecture to predict transaction conflicts in large-scale OLTP databases, and creating a machine learning transaction scheduler through vectorization and comparison of transactions. I am also running Meta’s social network workloads on CockroachDB and YugabyteDB for distributed database benchmarking, continuing experiments done in TAOBench paper. Previously, I completed a software developer internship at Bayer, where I developed full-stack products using MERN tech stack, AWS, and PostgreSQL in an agile sprint dev environment, and placed second in the company's AWS DeepRacer Event by training a reinforcement learning model to race an RC car.
