About Darrin Jones

Generally self-motivated, independent business man with an extremely diverse skill-set. Growing up in a large Southern Family in the ghetto of Hammond, Indiana (just outside Chicago) I experienced many life lessons at a relatively young age. I worked after school and during the Summer from age 12 on, and started to enjoy real wages far sooner than my peers. The family fence businesses started by my Father grew to become a fairly large enterprise by the time I entered college. Having been involved in college courses, state science symposiums, Westinghouse Talent Search, and World's Science Fair before I was a junior in high school, I felt enabled to succeed at anything I applied myself to thoroughly. I opened my own company, Jones Deck Co. in 1991, at the age of 26, after running a deck sales and installation division of one of my family's fence companies for 5 years. Jones Deck Co. was very profitable and grew until At that time I had lost all key employees and became less interested. My wife and I planned to buy a big boat and sail away. We did, but we knew that we were not ready to retire, so we came back into the landlubber workaday world in mid 2003. Once again I went to work for a component of my family's enterprise. I named and managed Dura-Max Hardware, a division of Jones Fence Enterprises, Inc. We imported fence hardware that was manufactured in China. Our specialty was industrial cantilever gate rollers of all types. We also sold stainless steel hinges and latches designed for vinyl fences, as well as traditional wood gate hardware. The middleman between JFE and the Chinese Manufacturing Plants bought us out after we made a pretty decent entry into the fence industry marketplace. I am happy to say that Dura-Max rollers that I helped design are still being made and sold today. They may possibly outlast me. Then I did a brief stint as a Patio room salesman, breaking annual records in just under nine months, but not enjoying it. Specialties: Understanding architectural motifs and what appeals to American Consumers. The ability to communicate well and to think outside of the box.
