About Darrow Chen

A Chartered Professional Engineer whose main area of work is in the field of structural remediation (remedial engineering) to extend the useful life of existing assets and built infrastructure. This typically involves the assessment of asset condition and/or durability to inform the development of and provide sustainable remedial solutions. My project, asset integrity, and remedial engineering experience spans across the civil, resource, marine, and defence industries for a variety of construction material types (e.g, metallic, cementitious, timber, polymeric, and composites) and asset types (e.g, bridges, tunnels, culverts, overhead gantries, dams, pipelines, liquid-retaining reservoirs, stadiums, wharves, buildings, etc.). I have a specialised technical interest in the topics of protective coatings (for steel and concrete substrates) and corrosion management, holding qualifications as a AMPP Certified Coating Inspector (NACE CIP Level 2) and AMPP Level 2 Concrete Coating Inspector. I am skilled in the development of remedial solutions for assets and experienced in providing troubleshooting and consulting services for materials-related issues for all types of infrastructure and building projects; this includes but is not limited to: condition assessments, remedial feasibility and optioneering studies, protective coating selection, developing protective coating specifications, performing destructive and non-destructive diagnostic material testing, undertaking corrosion and coating failure investigations, corrosion management, construction quality auditing, material selection. asset management planning, and design/construction phase support.
