Background

About Dave Barber

On 30 April 2021 I retired from my position as senior forecaster at the Alaska Aviation Weather Unit and moved to Wausau, Wisconsin. I am presently continuing work with developing my web site to show innovative ways of processing and displaying weather data while I enjoy using it to monitor the weather. In September 2014 joined the Alaska Aviation Weather Unit in Anchorage, AK. I do forecasts of ceiling, visibility, turbulence, icing, surface winds, convection for all of AK and surrounding ocean waters. I issue airmets and sigmets for potentially dangerous meteorological conditions. I provide volcanic ash advisories and associated sigmets. I am the satellite focal point and the BUFKIT focal point. Past experience in weather forecasting and university level teaching of meteorology. Recent extensive work in computer programming to process and display weather data. From February of 2010-September 2010 I was a volunteer at the National Weather Service Office in Fort Worth to update my meteorology background. Past preacher and teacher of a modest size progressive congregation that is Open and Affirming. Love preaching and teaching. Enjoy planning and leading worship. Have especially enjoyed using images and video in sermons and worship in the contemporary worship service. Considerable experience in both Fort Worth and Raleigh with participation in community and social justice organizations such as Tarrant Area Community of Churches (an ecumenical activist group), North Carolina Council of Churches, and the Interfaith Alliance of Wake County (NC), the Raleigh Religious Network for Gay and Lesbian Equality. PhD minor was in education and whatever field I've been in, I've been recognized as a teacher. if I can learn something I can teach it very well. Specialties: Research for MS and PhD as well as work experience at the National Severe Storms Forecast Center have given me strong background in severe weather. Teaching included atmospheric dynamics at undergraduate and graduate levels, synoptic meteorology and weather forecasting, atmospheric circulation systems, atmospheric thermodynamics, applications of microcomputers to weather analysis and forecasting, elementary courses in meteorology.
