About Dave Cook

An experienced Geospatial Consultant with over 30 years’ experience in the IT and GIS sector. Able to see the bigger picture and propose creative solutions. This approach delivers tangible and practical results. As a consultant I am adaptable and enjoy challenges. I have strong project management and Business Analyst skills, using tools like Jira, Zendesk, Git, and Teams to help manage and coordinate my workload. As a technical leader, I focus on the business to ensure project outcomes are targeted to meet business need. My strength is management of geospatial and location data; having been the data architect for numerous projects. I have a track record of integrating spatial data into business processes as well as managing, manipulating and analysing location data so that geospatial data products are fit for purpose and easily used. My main area of technical expertise is GIS - combining GIS technology like ArcGIS Enterprise with relational databases. I recently completed the architectural design for a large instance of ArcGIS Enterprise (on-premise), followed up by deployment and commissioning activities. I have strong scripting skills in Python, FME and SQL, as well as some very ancient Javascript last used in anger during the previous millennium. Outside of work, I love getting muddy on the mountain bike, attempting to master the of art of waterskiing on a single ski, and snoozing in a hammock on a nice sunny Wellington day.
