About Dave D.

I’ve had a successful career applying my background in computer science to solve business challenges across a variety of industries, including Financial Services, Independent Software Vendors, Data Security, and Networking. I’ve worked at large institutions such as Deutsche Bank and Emory University, but I’ve also been involved with start-ups, co-founding InfraStream, Biltmore Communications, The Infinity Market Neutral Fund, and other firms with technology at their core. As a founder, I have experience writing business plans, fundraising (over $3M cumulatively), and handling failure. I’ve also been a partner or employee at other start-ups such as Tabernus and Neovest. In all these small firms, I served as the CTO. After the sale of Tabernus in 2015, I took a few years off to go sailing. I continue to lead a couple of trips a year as a professional skipper. In 2019 I started Brightwork Digital as a vehicle for providing consulting services in the following areas: SME Technology Leadership As a generalist with an MBA and diverse SME experience, I’m able to provide a variety of services for the small/early-stage firm such as Technology Due Diligence, Platform/Vendor Selection, Code Review, and Vetting of Technical Personnel. Software Development I’ve always enjoyed getting my hands dirty and staying current with programming. As a recent example, while CTO at Tabernus, I led a small development team but also wrote challenging software such as a cryptographic licensing mechanism and the company's product to securely erase mobile devices. Agile Coaching When I got my Computer Science degree, I studied the waterfall method and structured programming. I have been a programmer throughout my career and have embraced the transformation away from these paradigms, especially Agile practices and how they have broadened beyond just software. I’m ScrumMaster and enjoy helping others benefit from the empirical and flexible approach of Agile Product Development.
