About Dave Furiness

Over 20 years experience in network engineering and operations. During that time, I worked for both start-up and established companies. Co-founder and the Director of Network Engineering and Operations for a regional application service provider (ASP), where I directed the design, implementation, and operations of their mission-critical network infrastructure. Functional groups under my direction included outside plant, wide area networking, data center LAN services, voice services, and data center operations. I also served as Vice President of Engineering and Operations for an early-stage wireless broadband service provider focused on secondary markets in the United States. The service provider deployed and operated a trial licensed wireless network in partnership with BellSouth. Prior to joining MCNC to start the CNE practice in March, 2008, I worked as a consultant. Consulting engagements included work with MCNC and the Friday Institute to assist in the development and implementation of the School Connectivity Initiative Implementation and Operating Plan. I also worked with a local non-profit to assist in the design and construction of their new corporate data center. Through this work experience, I have developed technical and functional breadth which has enabled me to lead diverse organizations and projects. In addition to network engineering and operations expertise, other skills include financial management, project and program management, and regulatory.
